💦 🥛 Leaking milk can be embarrassing, but it is totally normal!
Did you know, your body starts producing food for your baby around the 14th week of pregnancy!
Some pregnant people will leak colostrum (yellowish substance, low in fat, high in protein, carbohydrates and antibodies) from their breasts, before pregnancy and/or up until their milk comes in (2-5 days after delivery); some women will not. Some nursing people will experience milk shoot out of their breasts like a water gun sprayer when they are showering or changing their clothes 😲 🔫 , some will only dribble a couple drops when nursing.
In short, leaking milk is totally normal and nothing to be worried or embarrassed about. People who experience leaking breasts sometimes use breast pads. (I loved the washable cotton ones!) It goes over your breast in your bra, absorbing the liquid without making your bra/shirt wet.
If you have significant leaking, especially when nursing and/or you have a strong let down, there is a product you can purchase to catch all that liquid gold, so none is wasted!
** Of course, if the substance coming from your breasts is bloody or has a foul odour, contact your health care provider ASAP!
